Jay Smith, the Development and Grants Manager for the St. Augustine Lighthouse gave a fascinating talk on the history of lighthouses in the U.S. and the management of this lighthouse by a local non-profit who took it over from the US Coast Guard.  He discussed why every lighthouse is painted with a unique design and how each lamp has a unique flashing pattern so the structure is identifiable from the sea.  We were also treated to a bagpipe serenade in honor of President Cindy Feeley's birthday, by her husband.
