P. Scott Brown PhD, Professor of Art History at UNF, gave an enlightening presentation on the impact visual art had on the history of Jacksonville, enlightening us about the women behind the vision for the creation of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Jacksonville was at the center of the art world at the turn of the 20th century but the art created here didn't stay in Jacksonville. Dr. Brown talked about the influence of our setting on landscape artists and the women who championed the avant garde movement despite mainstream interests. Dr. Brown has extensive education and background in medieval and early modern art. His recent publication examines the history of North Florida through monuments, artwork, and artists of this region.
