Retired Rear Admiral Marty Evans spoke delighted us with stories from her 30 years of service in the Navy, and her numerous experiences as the head of and board member of several for-profit and not-for profits. RADM Evans retired as the highest ranking woman in the U.S. Navy. She boasts many “firsts” in her naval career. She was the on-scene commander for the U.S. Navy response team during the San Francisco Bay earthquake in 1989. In 1992, Evans was the head of the committee that recommended and successfully changed the federal law allowing women to be assigned to combat. Following retirement, Marty was the Chief Executive of the Girl Scouts of USA, and the President and CEO of the American Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina. She later became the Acting Commissioner of The Ladies Golf Association, and she serves on the board of First Tee.
