Dana Doody, Executive Director of the Jacksonville Arboretum spoke to the group about this Jacksonville gem.  We heard how a group of volunteers gathered in 2004 to accomplish the improbable by creating an arboretum out of a former titanium mine site.  Called “the hidden jewel” in Northeast Florida, the Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens opened in November 2008.  It covers 120 acres, with 7 natural trails through 13 distinct ecosystems.
